Course Overview
This professional doctorate in education (EdD) offers candidates a chance to approach issues in education in a professional, critical manner, through doctoral level study.
It is designed for those who wish to study education at doctoral level, on a part time basis. Most EdD students will be in full-time employment, many serving as teachers or senior leaders in schools, but the degree will also appeal to those working in the field of education more broadly – for example, in local authorities or in third sector organisations.
The programme is composed of two phases: a taught phase, comprised of four modules, and a research phase, during which students will produce a doctoral thesis.
The taught modules take place at Swansea University, in July each year (see additional costs); students will take one module each year. After successful completion of four modules, students will move on to the research stage, during which they will undertake original research, to be presented and defended during a viva voce examination, as with other doctoral programmes.
The EdD at Swansea will be research led throughout, supported by academics with international reputations for excellence.
