M2A Virtual Open Day
The M2A (Materials and Manufacturing Academy) has been the flagship centre for doctoral training (CDT) in Swansea University for over 25 years. We pair prospective graduates and undergraduates with local and national industrial partners, offering research degrees where our students gain academic qualifications whilst solving industrial problems through cutting edge research. The M2A is able to offer ten Masters by Research (MSc) degrees and ten Engineering Doctorate (EngD) degree's each year which are one and four years in duration respectively. Our degrees are fully recognised by the UK engineering council through the IOM3 and contribute toward chartership.
Working with our academic partners, our projects are focused on solving industrial problems by applying academic research which spans across many scientific fields, including steel metallurgy, functional coatings, photovoltaics, computational modelling and much more. As a student research engineer you will have the opportunity to spend your time working on site with your industrial partner, gaining valuable experience to help you in the future of your career. You also have full access to Swansea Universities comprehensive list of research equipment, which includes scanning electron microscopes, X-ray diffraction machines and super-computers capable of running complex simulations.
Our students are very well compensated for the research projects they undertake and can earn (subject to eligibility criteria):
- £12,500 tax free stipend for a MSc research project (funded for one year)
- £20000 annual tax free stipend for a EngD research project (funded for four years)
- No tuition fees
