The Opposition to the Great War in Wales 1914 - 1918, University Wales Press

Dr Aled Eirug's recently published book is the first study of the opposition to the Great War in Wales, and the most detailed analysis of the anti-war movement in any part of Britain. The opposition grew quickly after the outbreak of war, and this book analyses the two source of opposition - the response of the Christian pacifists, the Fellowship of Reconciliation and the anti-war journal Y Deyrnas, and the radical left in the Independent Labour Party and those in the South Wales Miners' Federation, who were inspired by the Russian Revolution. For the first time, the 900 Welsh conscientious objectors are analysed - who they were and what inspired them to take a stand against the horror of the war.
