Famelab 2017Event: Famelab 2017 - Swansea heat

Venue:  National Waterfront Museum

Date:  Wednesday 25th January

Time: 7:30pm

Swansea University's Public Engagement Forum is once again hosting the Swansea heat of FameLab 2017 at the National Waterfront Museum in partnership with Swansea Science Café.

Famelab is the UK’s biggest competition to discover new talent in communicating science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM).  Anyone working in a STEM field who thinks they can explain an idea or concept to non-scientists in just three minutes is welcome to take part. Past talks in Swansea have tackled subjects as diverse as how coral reef fish use sound, the wonders of titanium dioxide and the mathematics of infinity.

Contestants should be aged 21 or over, and studying or working in science, technology, engineering or mathematics, which includes specialist science or maths teachers.

Entrants should register directly with FameLab UK and prepare a three minute presentation.

Competitors can simply turn up on the day of the heat to take part, but there will be an optional but highly recommended training session beforehand.

The winner of the Swansea heat will battle for a place in the Regional Finals and if successful, all regional finalists will move on to participate in a Masterclass before competing in the UK National Final.  The national winner will then go up against more than 25 other international finalists to win the title of FameLab International Champion at The Times Cheltenham Science Festival.
