Discovery, the Swansea University student volunteering charity, is offering work experience for students in collaboration of the University’s Student Employability Academy (SEA). Discovery’s Week of Work (WOW) placements begins on Monday 30th January and will finish on Friday 5th February.

Discovery infographicEleanor Norton who recently took up her post as Discovery’s new director declared that volunteering has great advantages for students.

Eleanor said: “As well as making a difference to communities, voluntary work adds excellent experience to student’s CVs which can be relevant to careers in all sectors.  We at Discovery are pleased to be working with SEA, and students will be given a chance to develop key skills that employers look for. “

“Discovery actively supports students to be aware of their personal development and the impact on themselves and the lives of others through their involvement in community based activities. To register for Discovery’s WOW, simply come along to talk to us on Monday, where you can come and get your volunteer ID card and sign up.

“Throughout the week, there will be taster sessions for volunteers. For example on Monday we will be hosting a Brynmill Buddies Social Group, which is a social drop- in for community members in Brymilll.”

SEA supports Swansea University students at each stage of their journey towards a graduate career - from coordinating professional careers advice and managing a range of placement schemes.

Dr. Jon Howden-Evans head of SEA said: “The Swansea Employability Academy (SEA) provides a network for linking students with employers ranging from employer talks and workshops through to student led networking events.”

“Our Week of Work (WOW) programme offers students a one -week, unpaid ‘taster’ placement within of a wide range of organisations. We are offering students a unique opportunity to enhance their CV’S.

“At Swansea University, we’re here to help you develop your skills and stand out from the crowd when it comes to your chosen career.

“Recent figures show that 94.4% of our graduates are in jobs within six months after completing their studies and one of the main reasons for that is our Student Employability Academy (SEA) work placement programmes.”
