Swansea firmly embedded within the leading research Universities in the UK

On the day that Swansea University welcomes students to its spectacular new Swansea Bay Campus, the 2016 Times/Sunday Times Good University Guide highlights Swansea’s continued improvement with the University climbing two places and closing in on the elite universities in the UK.

Moving up two places from 43rd to 41st Swansea University has risen 11 places in the last three years (52nd in 2013).  The 2016 table shows that Swansea has excelled in Research Excellence, Graduate Prospects and Student Satisfaction.

Professor Hilary Lappin-Scott Senior Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Innovation and Strategic Development said:

“2015 is proving to be a momentous year with a host of successes and the opening of the impressive new Bay Campus this very weekend.

“The new Times/Sunday Times ranking, which is one of the most definitive lists of the very best UK institutions, has confirmed Swansea University is right up there with the elite. The new ranking, coupled with our consistently high rankings in other independent surveys and league tables show that Swansea University is fast gaining a reputation as a rising star capable of competing with the top institutions in the UK and across the world.”

This welcome move up the tables follows on from a wave of recent successes at Swansea University demonstrating the quality and depth of experience students will benefit from, including:

-       Achieving the University’s ambition to become a UK top 30 research institution – Swansea was ranked 26th (up from 52nd) in the Research Excellence Framework 2014 (REF2014).

-       Now ranked 400th in the world (top 4%), up 69 places in the QS World University Rankings® 2015/2016.

-       Swansea is now ranked 8th in the UK for overall student satisfaction, as measured in the National Student Survey 2015.

-       Awarded 5-Stars for excellence in the global QS Stars Quality Assessment, placing Swansea amongst other world-leading institutions to have also achieved 5-Stars such as Harvard and Oxford.

-       And Swansea University has been selected to host next year’s highly prestigious British Science Festival, a vibrant celebration of science, engineering and technology, which will shine a spotlight on our world-leading research.

“The opening of the University’s magnificent £450m science and innovation Bay Campus development has been a major step forward. The new Campus has already been recognised as a hot contender for a best campus award and a forerunner in terms of academic and scientific discovery. Its partnerships with international research organisations will further extend the institution’s reach and offer both academics and students the opportunity to become involved in world-leading joint research.
