Swansea University has co-ordinated a new course for Welsh second language students who are about to study their Welsh degree at universities across Wales.

The residential course, Rhowch Gynnig Arni (Give it a Go), is funded by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol, and is designed to offer Welsh degree students from Swansea, Aberyswyth, Bangor, Cardiff and South Wales Universities the opportunity to  develop their fluency and confidence in the language.

Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Annual EventRhowch Gynnig Arni will be held in Bala, Gwynedd, from 14 – 18 September. During the course, students will have the opportunity to enjoy various activities, from language lessons to a Welsh beatboxing session with Mr Phormula, from a visit to the home of the author, Kate Roberts, to a Candelas gig in Llanuwchllyn, and much more.

The course co-ordinator, Dr Rhian Jones, Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Welsh lecturer at Swansea University, said: “As most of the students come from areas where Welsh isn’t heard on a daily basis, the experience of spending a week enjoying the Welsh language, and living in the company of other students is excellent preparation for their degree, when they will be studying alongside first language Welsh students.

“By funding this residential course, the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol also facilitates collaboration between Welsh universities for the benefit of our students and the future of the Welsh language. Everyone benefits!”.
