‎To launch the Ancient Egyptian Demonology Project: Second Millennium BC, Dr Szpakowska, will present the new project, and the collaborators' vision for a future online interactive database.

She will show how Ancient Egyptians dealt with the ever-present threat of Demons and even used their powers for benefit. Some of the objects that depict demons, or that were actually used to drive them away, have survived and have made their way into the collection at the Egypt Centre.

This Leverhulme Trust and Bridging the Gaps funded project aims to create a preliminary typology and classification of Ancient Egyptian demons, supernatural entities, and related paraphernalia of the Second Millennium BCE.

Following the lecture there will be a guided tour of a "Demon-Trail" through the Egypt Centre that will highlight some of the surviving objects used by the Egyptians to protect themselves from the ever-present threat of demons.

This event forms part of Swansea University’s Festival of Research – a week-long showcase of research excellence, supported by Bridging the Gaps, which runs from Monday, February 25 until Friday, March 1, 2013.
