Swansea University student and Olympic medallist Georgia Davies stood on top of the podium on two occasions this weekend. Georgia picked up Gold in the 50 & 100 Backstroke at the British University and Colleges Sports short course championships, with both swims being meet records.

Team Mate Alice Tennant also took gold in the 400 Individual Medley (IM) with a lifetime best. Tennant (2nd Year Law) also picked up a silver in the 200 IM and bronze in the 400 Freestyle.

Swansea Universities swim programmes come together to compete in the championships for 2012 and once again showed its strength on both an individual and team front with numerous medals of all colours and maintaining its title of top Welsh University for swimming, being the only Welsh University to feature in the top 20 teams.

The girls once again showed their dominance despite a costly mistake in a relay heat and key absentees finishing 3rd overall.

Other girls to medal included Libby Mitchell who broke two elusive barriers in both the 200 Freestyle (1:59) and 100 Butterfly (59secs) en route to bronze and silver respectively. Libby picked up a further silver with a lifetime best in the 200 Butterfly.

Adam Mallet was the sole Male swimmer to make it onto the podium with a silver in the 200m Butterfly behind 2012 Olympian Roberto Pavoni.

The girls 4x50 freestyle relay team also picked up silverware with a strong final team effort to secure bronze. The team comprised Alice Tennant, Avril Kiritschenko, Georgia Davies and Libby Mitchell.

Imogen Stanley, Sports Officer welcomed the success, saying "I'm very proud of all the swimmers who represented Swansea University in the competition over the weekend. To be the top Welsh University at this Championship is fantastic as well as finishing in the top five in the UK."

The 2012 team is a young team and they are hoping to move this result forward by the time they return to Sheffield in February for Long Course Champs.
