On 9 March, the Department of Shipping and Trade Law hosted its seventh annual Careers & Networking Fair, attended as ever by representatives from an impressive range of local and international law firms, P & I clubs and insurance companies.
A large proportion of our LLM students lost no time in attending the event and taking advantage of the opportunity it offered to meet and talk face-to-face with representatives from organisations specialising in a large number of different areas of law, including commercial, intellectual property, shipping and transport, insurance, as well as international trade. The representatives for their part provided invaluable advice to our students on the recruitment process and the world of hard work.
James White, Claims Assistant at The Standard Club commented: “As a Swansea alumni I was keen to attend the fair to meet the next generation of LLM students to give them some real insight into the world of commerce. I was extremely impressed with the calibre of students attending the fair and wish them well as they commence their professional careers.”
Commenting afterwards, Dr Theodora Nikaki, Deputy Head of the Department, said:
“At Swansea we have always been committed to producing first-class graduates equipped with the first-class skills required to find a job suitable for their abilities. It's not only a matter of fairs like this one:We regularly offer employability seminars to our students alongside their studies. We are immensely gratified that our students are regarded in such high esteem by international companies, insurers and law firms. We were also delighted to hear the feedback from our students and the employers attending the Fair – once again the ‘usefulness’ of the event was the first thing that everybody mentioned."
