Swansea University aims to provide a contemporary and practical legal education for our students. Therefore, our industry links are extremely important and we have developed close relationships with several international law firms. Two top-ranking global firms, Ince & Co LLP and HFW, kindly offer prizes to our LLM students on an annual basis. Our 2017/18 students received their prizes this July.
The Ince & Co Prize (worth a substantial £1,000) was awarded to Sudhir Sagun, (pictured left) who achieved the highest average in part 1 of his LLM. The prize was given by Peter Rogan at a ceremony held at Ince's London Offices. Speaking at the event Mr Rogan expressed how our relationship had now entered its second decade, and that he remained very pleased at the contribution Swansea was making in developing the new generation of shipping and trade lawyers. Professors Baughen and Soyer also attended the ceremony in support of their student, Sudhir.
At another ceremony held in the London offices of HFW, three of our LLM students were awarded prizes: Aikaterini Kokkala (HFW Prize in Admiralty Law, pictured centre) ; Svetlana Sumina (HFW Prize in Oil and Gas Law, pictured right) and Sudhir Sagun (HFW Carriage of Goods Prize).
Aikaterini, who came to Swansea from Athens, is currently undertaking an internship in Rome at the same time as completing her LLM in Commercial and Maritime Law. Svetlana (pictured right) is a member of the Texas Bar, and worked in the USA, China and Japan prior to joining our LLM. Sudhir originally hails from India and has had an excellent year with us at Swansea.
The Prizes were presented by Richard Neylon, Partner at HFW, who is also a Swansea graduate himself. He congratulated the students for their success and expressed delight at the fact that Swansea LLM degrees are enjoying such a global reputation.
