Joe, a PhD student at the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law has been selected to receive the prize for the 2017/18 academic year.
The Ede and Ravenscroft Student Prize is funded by donations from the company, with prizes of £250 being awarded to reward students for their exceptional work. Both staff and students were asked to nominate students, with a supporting statement detailing the positive impact they have had on their peers and the wider University.
All students who are currently enrolled at the University are eligible to be nominated for the prize, which is a recognition of their ‘significant contribution to student life outside of normal studies’. Students could be nominated for a wide range of reasons, which included:
- Improving student satisfaction
- Working within the community
- Making a positive contribution to university life
Joe was nominated by Dr Caroline Jones, who said in her nomination:
“Joe Janes has made a significant contribution to student life through his role as the Postgraduate Research (PGR) Student Representative for the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law. Joe has been an active and enthusiastic representative for his fellow students; representing their voice, needs and interests - both individually and collectively within the School, and also at the University level through his committed engagement with the Postgraduate Research Committee.
“Joe has been an excellent ambassador for the PGR community in Criminology and Law – friendly and approachable, professional and courteous, fully committed and engaged. It is a pleasure to nominate him for this prize in recognition of his efforts.”

Speaking of being awarded the prize, Joe said:
““It really is a pleasure to receive this award. I cannot thank the postgraduate research team that I work alongside enough. Without Dr. Caroline Jones, Mr. Alun Morgan and my fellow students this wouldn’t be possible.}
“Mae’r gwaith yr ydym yn ei gyflawni fel tîm wedi creu amgylchedd gwych i astudio ynddo a chymuned ôl-radd braf o fewn y coleg. Rwyf yn edrych ymlaen at barhau i gefnogi fy nghyfoedion fel cynrychiolydd ôl-radd ar gyfer Ysgol y Gyfraith Hillary Rodham Clinton ac rwy’n falch o fod yn llais sy’n creu cysylltiad rhwng cyrff y myfyrwyr a’r staff gyda’i gilydd.”
