In honour of our friend and colleague, Dr Theodora Nikaki, who we lost last year to a cruel illness, the School has introduced a new prize to celebrate academic excellence. The Dr Nikaki Prize is awarded to the student who achieves the best results in the Charterparties: Law and Practice module, which was taught by Dr Nikaki over a decade at Swansea.
This year, the Prize was presented by the Head of the School, Professor Elwen Evans QC, to Ilari Joannes Keinanen. Ilari hails from Finland and is a qualified lawyer in his native country.
Presenting the Prize, Professor Evans QC congratulated Ilari, saying:
“It is a pleasure to be able to recognise Ilari’s outstanding success in this module. Dr Nikaki made such a valuable and significant contribution to the success of the International Institute of Shipping and Trade Law and we know that she would be delighted to know that Ilari is the inaugural recipient of this annual prize.”
