MOOTING COMPETITIONS - 2020/21 ACADEMIC YEAR

In 2020/21, the Hillary Rodham Clinton School of Law entered thirteen external competitions, with the following thirty-four students representing the Law School:

  • Oxford University Press Moot - Dora Velenczei and Mari Watkins
  • English Speakers Union Moot – Rhiannon Smith and Taliesyn Kallstrom
  • Landmark Chambers Property Moot – Louis Elliott and Zachariah Rooth
  • Landmark Chambers Judicial Review Moot – Thomas Plan and Jules Gwinnutt
  • BPP Advocate of the Year – Taliesyn Kallstrom and Masuma Nessa
  • Surrey University Mock Trial Competition – Mohamed Felaya and Ruth Jones
  • No. 5 Paper Buildings Criminal Law Moot – Laurence Cooper and Lucy Brown
  • Negotiation Competition – Dora Velenczei and Laurence Cooper, Aidan Reesor and Megan Lazarevic, Mohamed Felaya and Sara Jetten, Louis Elliott and Jasmine Stevendale
  • Maynooth Negotiations Competition – Dora Velenczei and Laurence Cooper, Mari Watkins and Carlie Englefield, Jeevan Mann and Taliesyn Kallstrom, Justine Mears and Dominic Gray
  • ADR-ODR Mediation Competition – Brianne Menchion, Zachary Hatton and Mohamed Felaya, Yasmin Daly, Aidan Reesor and Fatima Muhammad Nayyar, Connah Snape, Justine Mears and Taliesyn Kallstrom
  • Mackay Cup – Brianne Menchion and James Sackville
  • Derby National Mooting Competition – Ritika Vig and Hope Young
  • Southampton National Mooting Competition – Alexandra Hill and Robert Gannon, Yoana Yankova and Kelly Barlow

NOTABLE ACHIEVEMENTS

The following were particularly notable achievements over the course of the year:

  • Mari and Dora reached the semi-finals of the OUP - the furthest a Swansea team has progressed.
  • Brianne, Zachary and Mohamed finished second in the negotiating class of the ADR ODR Mediation Competition, ahead of over twenty teams from around the world
  • Dora and Laurence finished second in the Maynooth Negotiations Competition
  • Taliesyn and Jeevan finished joint third in the Maynooth Negotiations Competition
  • Brianne and James finished 2nd in the Mackay Cup
  • Mohamed and Ruth reached the semi-finals of the Surrey Mock Trial Competition.
  • Aidan and Megan qualified for the National Negotiations Competition, finishing 8th overall.

Notable Achievements

The following were particularly notable achievements over the course of the year:

  • Mari and Laurence qualified for the semi-finals of the Medical Law Mooting Competition
  • Gareth Horrocks qualified for the National Stage of the BPP Advocate of the Year Competition
  • Hope, Taliesyn, and Nilasha finished sixth in the National Mediation Competition
  • Taliesyn Kallstrom finished 13th out of 45 in the National Mediation Competition individual rankings
  • Caryl and Meryl qualified for the National Negotiation Competition, which was unfortunately cancelled due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

  • Hannah and Varaidzo qualified for the quarter finals of the Landmark Chambers Property Moot
  • The Advocate of the Year team won the South West and Wales Regional Competition
  • Caryl Thomas qualified for the National Stage of the BPP Advocate of the Year Competition
  • Caryl, Rhys, Chris and Louis won the Surrey University Mock Trial Competition
  • Yusuf, Josh and Cal finished fourth in the National Mediation Competition
  • Rohan was awarded Top Individual Debater in the Medical Law Debating Competition
  • Caryl and Meryl won the Client Interviewing Competition South-West Regional, and finished fourth at the National Competition
