The Sad Passing of Associate Professor Dr Theodora Nikaki

With enormous sorrow and regret, we must announce the death of our friend and colleague Associate Professor Dr Theodora Nikaki following a short period of illness.

Theodora Nikaki

A graduate of Aristotle University in Thessalonica, Dora worked in private practice for several years, before obtaining an LLM in Admiralty and Maritime Law at Tulane with distinction. She then went on to work in a maritime law firm in the United States before gaining a PhD degree in carriage of goods by sea in the UK. She joined us at Swansea School of Law (and Institute of International Shipping and Trade Law (IISTL)) in 2005.

It immediately became evident that she was a born teacher, her capacity there being matched only by her compassion and care for her students. She enjoyed keeping in touch with as many of them as she could, long after they had completed their studies here, and she always made time to meet them when she had the opportunity to exercise her great love of travelling. She was a cornerstone of our LLM Programme in Shipping and Trade, at the very heart of the academic shipping community here at Swansea. Her impact to the development of our LLM Programme and its continuous success is inestimable.

Her influence and the contributions she made to her field of research were a great source of personal pride to her and to the rest of us at the School. Her dedication to her craft was unrivalled. She will be remembered by teachers, students and practitioners with deep affection and utmost respect.

We offer her family and friends our sincerest condolences. She will be sorely missed, personally and professionally, by us all.
