For the last 9 years (and recently in the capacity of Honorary Lecturer) I have provided lectures and internships to Swansea University MA students, partly in order to give them valuable, hands on work experience but also in order to introduce them to the world of work and business – coaching them and mentoring them every step of the way. The students are exceptional, fast learners and are always keen to integrate within the team, becoming part of the furniture. We always strive to ensure that each individual is treated as an employee so they gain the full experience, moving around different departments – getting them ready for the working world. Many students have subsequently been employed by myself and/or have gained enough experience, together with their Degrees to stand out and snap up the most incredible global employment opportunities. This is a vital part of the students’ academic journey as it acts as a career catalyst, giving them a distinct advantage in an industry that is notoriously competitive.
The Swansea Internship Coordinator, Dr Patricia Rodríguez-Martínez is the most intelligent, innovative and passionate individual I have ever known. She is driven to help the students and above all, she appreciates the support we give. The process from meeting the students when I lecture, right the way through until the very end of the internships is simple, easy and you always feel in control – never pressured. Dr Rodríguez-Martínez is an absolute pleasure to work alongside and is a true jewel in the structure of the University. I am sure that every student that crosses her path knows that they are so fortunate to have her supporting, encouraging and nurturing them throughout. Bringing LiNGUA into the equation with the business element, most certainly completes the ideal solution – with even a job at the end in many cases!
Thank you Swansea University for including me, I love every minute and hope to continue ‘doing my bit’ for many years to come.
