You are entitled to adoption leave if you adopt a child or have a child through a surrogacy arrangement. This guide explains how much time you can take and the pay that you may be entitled to.
- You can take up to 52 weeks adoption leave, regardless of your length of service at the University.
- Adoption leave will be available to:
- Employees who adopt individually.
- One member of a couple, regardless of gender, where a couple adopt jointly.
- If you are a couple jointly adopting, you must decide who will take the paid adoption leave. Your partner (male or female) may be eligible to paid paternity leave.
- You can also choose to end your adoption leave early and opt into shared parental leave with your partner.
- If you have at least 52 weeks continuous service you may be eligible for the University Adoption Pay Scheme of up to 8 weeks full pay and 18 weeks half pay.
- You will also be entitled to 39 weeks Statutory Adoption Pay.
- If you don't qualify for the University Adoption Pay Scheme, but have at least 26 weeks continuous service, you may also be entitled to 39 weeks Statutory Adoption Pay, depending on your earnings.
