Swansea University has been at the cutting edge of research and innovation since 1920. We thrive on exploration and discovery and are committed to transforming lives and futures by providing an outstanding academic environment with a balance of excellence between world-class teaching and research, driving social mobility, and delivering impact that is enabled by effective regional and global collaborations. With more than 20,000 students, we have enjoyed a period of tremendous growth, which has been matched by the highest standards of student experience.
We now wish to appoint an outstanding leader to the position of Associate Director of Procurement. You will be a key member of the Finance senior management team and will provide professional leadership of the Procurement service, with a strong customer focus. You will support the University in ensuring Value for Money (VfM) through appropriate sourcing, purchasing, strategic procurement, contract performance monitoring and the development of performance measures to ensure cost-effective use of resources. You will also actively engage in external Higher Education procurement consortia, encouraging and sharing best practice and using combined purchasing power to deliver greater value for the member universities.
This is an important and wide-ranging role that will require a high level of commercial acumen and demonstrable ability to build strong, productive relationships with a diverse stakeholder group including academic and research staff, other professional services functions and key external suppliers and partners. You will have considerable experience in a leadership role within a large and complex operating environment, with a track record of success in motivating and developing professional procurement services staff; managing financial resources; leading transformational and behavioural change; and driving innovative customer services initiatives. As well as excellent technical knowledge, you will have experience of the Public Sector Procurement Regulations, tendering, contract, and project management, proven negotiating and influencing skills.
