Swansea University is fully committed to LGBT+ equality.

We actively seek to improve and measure our successes within LGBT+ equality, to ensure that staff and students feel accepted and safe at work and study, regardless of their sexual orientation and gender identity.

We are proud members of the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index (WEI), which provides us with a definitive benchmarking tool to measure our progress on lesbian, gay, bi and trans inclusion in the workplace.

The WEI focusses on 10 areas of employment policy and practice, including networking groups, career development, training and community engagement.

In 2020 Swansea University maintained its ranking of 47th in the league table of UK employers. We are delighted that we have increased our rankings in participating Education Bodies entrants where Swansea University was ranked sixth in the UK.

What is LGBT+?

LGBT stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bi and Transgender:

Lesbian: a woman who is attracted to other women
Gay: a man who is attracted to other men
Bi: an individual attracted to people regardless of their gender
Transgender: someone whose gender is different to the sex they were assigned at birth.

The plus (+) relates to other sexual and gender identities, including (but not limited to) pansexual, asexual, intersex, questioning, queer, genderqueer, polysexual.
