Swansea University recognises that there has been a recent influx of international student families. Whilst this, UK wide, increase has been driven largely by Government changes to the immigration system, the University is aware of increased demand that maybe impacting local, grassroots services and organisations.
Whilst it is expected that numbers will level out once the immigration changes settle, the University is keen to ensure that local services continue to flourish during this period of potential increased demand. The SU: International Community Goodwill Fund (SU: ICGF) has been set up as an additional, short term funding source, in order to help the local Community where applicable.
For the purposes of year 22/23 there will be a single funding cycle running March to July 2023. Grants awarded will usually be between £500-£2,500.
Criteria and evidence required for funding
All applications must meet the essential criteria set out below. Applications which do not address all criteria will not be further assessed.
1) Applicants must be a local service, organisation or charity (not individuals) and must be demonstrably providing support or services to Swansea University international students and their families AND
2) Details of the structure of the organisation/group/charity must be submitted with the funding application (individuals who are not part of a wider organisation etc. cannot apply for the fund) AND
3) Evidence regarding the nature and type of support the organisation, service or charity provides must be submitted with the funding application AND
4) Details of where the financial support will go, including a clear and realistic budgetary forecast, must be submitted with the funding application AND
5) 2 affidavits from, currently enrolled, Swansea University international students (not affiliated with the organisation structure), clearly detailing the support they have received, must be submitted with the funding application AND
6) Agreement to provide the University with a formal invoice regarding any award granted (details regarding the content of the invoice will provided with award notification) AND
7) Agreement to provide the University with a short feedback report regarding any award granted, within 3-6 months of the funding being received, must be submitted with the funding application (further detail provided with award notification) AND
8) Agreement for details of any Fund award (plus resulting benefits detailed in the report in point 7.) to be included in University publicity materials must be submitted with the funding application AND
9) Agreement for details of the application/award to be kept on the University’s central secured server for 6 years, as per standard financial audit purposes, will be submitted with the funding application AND
10) An application should be submitted, in full, within the appropriate funding cycle deadline or it will not fall for assessment
Application process
Please ensure the process below is adhered to:
1) Complete the Application Form SU:ICGF
2) Send the completed form to families@swansea.ac.uk and attach any additional evidence within the email
3) Applications will be considered on a rolling basis: for applications made in the current academic year 2022/23, applications must be received in full by the 3rd Friday in June for consideration
4) Completed applications received in time will be considered by a panel of 3 Swansea University staff. In some cases, further information or evidence may be requested in order for the panel to make a decision. The panel’s decision will be final.
5) Applicants will be notified of the Panel decision within 3 weeks of submission (provided the application was completed and further evidence not required)
6) Applicants will need to submit a formal invoice for funds agreed and these will be released by the University via direct bank transfer (further information and a template invoice will be provided on notification of fund approval).
Please note that any applications received that do not contain all the relevant information will not be considered and there will be no response sent. You need to take full responsibility to ensure that everything is included in a single email for assessment.
When can we apply?
As can be seen in the point 3 of the application process above, applications for the current academic year, 2022/23, need to be received by 3rd Friday in June 2023.
This is to ensure that you have enough time to submit your application and submit any further adjustments that might be required as part of the assessment process. It also allows the University enough time to produce supporting documents and work with you to make sure the funds are released to you within the relevant University financial year.
What happens if our application is successful?
If you application for the SU: ICGF is successful, you will be proactively contacted by the University via email.
You will need to provide an invoice for funds agreed and further information and a template invoice will be provided. A bank transfer will then be actioned. Information about fund recipients providing a of short feedback report, around 3-6 months from fund award, will also be given.
