Meet the Midwifery and Parenting Team

Susie Moore has been a midwife for 20 years and has worked in a variety of maternity settings from home to hospital. She is now a senior lecturer at Swansea University and a certified birth trauma resolution practitioner.

Sophie Cunningham qualified as a midwife in September 2009, from Swansea University. Since qualifying Sophie has had a range of experience in a variety of different roles within midwifery, working in London, Melbourne and Bristol before finally returning home to work locally as a midwife and in a new and exciting role as a midwifery lecturer in Swansea University in 2014. Sophie is passionate about promoting informed choice for women, to aid them in the numerous decisions they will be asked to make throughout their pregnancies, labour and birth. She believes this starts with excellent education for student midwives, in helping them understand the evidence that guides midwifery practice and empowering them to, in turn, support and empower women in their care.

Alys Einion, Associate Professor of midwifery, qualified as a midwife in 1998 and became a lecturer in 2005. She is passionate about supporting women to be confident in their ability to birth and parent children and about striving for equality in midwifery and in education. She has published many articles and chapters in journals and books about midwifery, gender, sexuality and complementary therapies. Alys is qualified as a midwife, complementary therapist and hypnobirthing practitioner and offers hypnobirthing classes in the Health and Wellbeing Academy.

Sarah Norris has been a midwife for over 20 years and has worked in hospital and community settings. She is now a midwifery teacher and accredited as a Hypnobirthing practitioner and Birth Trauma therapist.

Lucy Evans graduated as a midwife from Swansea University in 2006. Since then she has had a broad range of clinical experience in both the low risk and high-risk setting. Lucy has worked locally in Wales within ABMU and in The Royal Bournemouth Hospital and for Imperial College London. She joined the Lecturing Team here in Swansea in 2017 and is very passionate about promoting a positive experience for women and their families throughout their contact with maternity services.

Eleanor Healer started her career as a student midwife in East London where she completed 3 years training in diverse Whitechapel and Hackney. She came back to Wales to practice as a newly qualified midwife in Cardiff. After a short time in UHW, she moved on to Aneurin Bevan Health Board and spent 5 fantastic years as an integrated midwife, based in a stand-alone birth centre in the South Wales Valleys. In 2010 Eleanor decided to take a big step and head back to university to pursue a postgraduate masters, and in 2011 she completed an LLM in Medical Law from Cardiff University. This was to provide a spring board into teaching undergraduate midwives in midwifery and medical law to other healthcare cohorts at Swansea University, where she have enjoyed working since October 2011. Eleanor is passionate about supporting mothers and their babies in their infant feeding journey and that she is currently training to be a lactation Consultant.
