Want to be a Student Ambassador?

Student Ambassadors are enthusiastic individuals who actively participate in promoting and representing the College of Human and Health Sciences and Swansea University at marketing and recruitment events that take place throughout the year.

At the beginning of each new academic year, we recruit a team of Student Ambassadors who work alongside us to represent the college to prospective students.  

We welcome interest from students who are currently enrolled on our undergraduate and postgraduate courses and come from a variety of backgrounds. 

Here's what you need to know...

What does the role involve?

Student Ambassadors could be involved in any of the following activities:

  • Representing the College of Human and Health Sciences at University Open Days
  • Participating in the College of Human and Health Sciences Applicant Visit Days
  • Helping Tutors at interview and selection events for the commissioned programmes
  • Meeting and greeting new students such as at the start of the academic year in September and taking part in other induction activities during the year, e.g., intakes of Exchange/Visiting students and Nursing students
  • Participating in off campus ‘Back To School’ talks (visiting your old School to talk about student life)
  • Providing campus tours for visitors making independent and ad-hoc’ visits to the College including meeting with international guests/visiting academics
  • Supporting Taster Days on campus for Schools/Colleges of Further Education
  • Assisting with Work Experience pupils
  • Leading tours of Departments to show Laboratories and facilities
  • Providing directions to visitors
  • Answering questions on student life and Swansea University
  • Assisting with administration at events
  • Helping at Departmental Conferences
  • Training new Student Ambassadors
  • Telephone conversion work
  • Clearing Helpline operators

What skills do I need to have?

The ability to work independently without contact supervision, but also to be part of a larger team, working with other students from various year groups in supporting Academic staff and the College Recruitment and Marketing team at events.

  • Be able to communicate easily and confidently with both parents and prospective applicants (both younger and older than yourself)
  • Show you are punctual, professional, flexible, responsible and reliable
  • A good role model
  • Friendly and approachable
  • Willing to take part in a variety of events in all weathers!

What will I achieve?

  • Work experience to add to your CV which is invaluable when you apply for jobs or postgraduate study

  • The opportunity to meet new people
  • Develop your transferable skills, including; team-working, communication skills, confidence, using your initiative and problem solving by learning how to expect the unexpected!
  • All Student Ambassadors will receive full training
