The chief nursing officer for Wales, Jean White, a former lecturer at Swansea University, was today (25th January 2013) recognised for her contribution to nursing in Wales with an honorary degree from Swansea University.
Jean White became the Chief Nursing Officer for Wales on 29 October 2010. She is the head of the nursing and midwifery professions in Wales. She provides expert professional advice on nursing and midwifery matters to the Welsh Government and acts as the Government representative on national and international matters related to nursing and midwifery.
Professor Richard B Davies, Vice Chancellor of Swansea University, said:
"Jean White has had a long association with us here at Swansea University. She trained as a general nurse in the city, worked in local hospitals, and taught nursing at the University. She has been hugely successful in her career and is now leading important enhancements to nursing in Wales. We are delighted to honour her with this award."
