Tomorrow's world: New horizons for learning and assessment in practice in the 70th anniversary of the NHS

The Mentorship Presentation and Awards Ceremony continues a now established annual event which acknowledges excellence of supervision and assessment provided by nurses and midwives and wider teams within ABMU and Hywel Dda Health Boards in partnership with Swansea University.

Mentor Awards 2018

Now in its third year, the 2018 awards was an evening full of celebration highlighting the immense gratitude felt by student nurses and midwives towards their mentors.

A role that often goes unrecognised, mentorship is a vital part of pre-registration nurse and midwifery training, as it helps to establish a positive environment for learning and that nurturing from mentors encourages personal and professional development.

The evening was opened by the Tenovus choir, who provided an inspirational ensemble of well known songs which set the uplifting tone for the awards. This was followed by a short film of service users, students, nurses, midwives and practice educators who recounted their passion and commitment to practice education.

All nominations were put forth by the students who wanted to show their appreciation for the support and guidance that each mentor provided during their programme. Each award category had a recipient from ABMU and Hywel Dda with one being named overall Mentor of the Year. This year that title went to Cindy Allan (ABMU), North Hub, Zone 5, Swansea and Louise Davies (Hywel Dda), Ward 9, Prince Philip Hospital.

Big congratulations go out to all of the mentors who were nominated and, especially, the evening recipients:
