A midwifery student from Swansea University’s College of Human and Health Sciences has been successful in being shortlisted for a second prestigious Midwifery Award.
Third year student Annmarie Thomas has been shortlisted for the ‘Outstanding Student Midwife Award’ with the Edith Cavell Nurses Trust, just weeks after making the shortlist for the Royal College of Midwifes (RCM) Annual Midwifery Awards.
Annmarie’s lecturers persuaded her to submit an entry for the award, which is open to midwifery students and recognises the enthusiasm and determination to improve the birth experience of all they come into contact with.
Annmarie said: “I can't actually believe this is all happening to me. I don't feel worthy but I really appreciate this recognition for the work I have put into my midwifery training. I have some pretty amazing opposition for these awards and it really is an honour to be placed in such inspirational company.
“It's really an achievement for the whole midwifery department at Swansea as their support to help me grow as a student midwife has been amazing. I'll forever be grateful to the team and owe these opportunities to them.”
Annmarie will travel to London on 12th February to attend her interview before the winners are announced at an awards ceremony on 1st April, 2015.
