Healthcare operations management on the world stage

The increasing interest in Healthcare Operations Management was clear to see at the 5th World Conference for Production and Operations Management which was held in Havana, Cuba this September.

Dr Sharon Williams, from the Swansea Centre for Improvement and Innovation at the College of Human and Health Sciences, was invited to chair one of the healthcare sessions, presenting her work on the delivery of sustainable services for Huntington’s Disease patients.  This work provides a theoretical framework which combines the critical factors associated with improving and sustaining public services.

Over 377 papers were presented at the conference with delegates attending from 38 different countries.  Dedicated sessions for healthcare operations included papers on quality and sustainability, healthcare supply chains, decision support systems and improving the blood service.
