College staff complete the 23.6 mile Jurassic Coastal Hike for Macmillan Cancer Support

On the 8th July staff from the College of Human and Health Sciences successfully completed the Macmillan Jurassic Coastal Hike in Dorset, trekking the 23.6 mile coastal path to raise money for the cancer support charity.

Angela Smith (Lecturer in Health Care Law) and Chantal Patel (Head of Interprofessional Studies) from the College of Human and Health Sciences completed the challenging full day trek along England's South Coast, with demanding climbs, testing their legs and stamina!

Chantal Patel comments, "Angela & I as well as Chaitra who is not a member of the College undertook the Jurassic Coast Macmillan Hike on the 8th of July. I can honestly say it was the scariest thing I have done in a long time, in particular as I am afraid of heights, however it was the terrifying feat of having to come down steep cliff slopes that preoccupied all of us on the day."

Angela and Chantal are raising money for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity and would be extremely grateful for any donation however small for such a good cause: Just Giving Page.

Angela says, "we are both aware that there are so many worthy charitable causes all asking for money these days that we have decided to do a carboot sale to also raise money for MacMillan. We will be doing this in September and therefore this plea is to ask for any contributions of “stuff” that you may be thinking of throwing out. Anything gratefully received – books, clothes, household items, car items, garden items, etc.. You name it ,we can try and flog it!! You would be amazed at what people will buy at these sales so don’t think that your “stuff” has to be in wonderful (or even good) condition. If you have anything that you do want to get rid of, you can bring it up to our rooms at any time (Rooms 700 or 704a Vivian tower). If what you would like to donate is too heavy or bulky then please let me know and I’ll happily pick it up from you."

Anybody also willing to lend a clothes rack (for displaying clothes for sale) and a wallpapering table (to display items) would be much appreciated. These will be returned so not expecting these to be donated. The sale will be on Sunday 17th September so any donations need to be with us by the beginning of that week if possible.

Many thanks Angela & Chantal
