College Professor shares skills with Thai academics

A professor from Swansea University’s College of Human and Health Sciences has travelled to Thailand to share his research, as well as his experiences of publishing in international journals.

Prof David Hughes ThailandProfessor David Hughes, an expert in health policy and medical sociology who works in the College’s Department of Public Health and Policy Studies, recently visited Burapha University in Bang Saen, Thailand.

Professor Hughes is a current editor of the Wiley Journal: Sociology of Health and Illness (SHI). He said: “Many Thai scholars find it difficult to make the transition from writing Thai-language articles in national journals to writing in English for an international journal. SHI is keen to attract more submissions from regions such as South East Asia, but the Journal is well aware of the challenges faced by overseas authors, and this is one of several such presentations I have given in the region during my time in the editorial team.

“Burapha University has had a long, if rather episodic, relationship with Swansea University and it was good return to a university with which we've had intermittent contact for some years, but never really cemented a link. I'm hoping that my latest trip will lead to some staff and students from Burapha visiting Swansea University.
