Vivienne Gaulter-Carter BSc Psychology
What did you enjoy the most about the course and studying at Swansea University?
I studied Psychology, which I thoroughly enjoyed because I met a lot of people with similar interests and found the different modules very interesting. I love that Swansea is so close to the beach, has the Gower to one side and the town the other side!
What skills did you learn from completing the course and how did they help you get a job?
The main skills that I learnt whilst studying were; essay writing, time management, SPSS (statistical package), presentation skills and research skills. In my current job, I use all of
the skills listed above.
What have you gone on to do since graduating?
At first I worked in a private BMI hospital as a course coordinator for a consultant plastic surgeon’s aesthetic training business. I then did a ski season in the French Alps for 5 months. In May 2013 I got the job I am currently in now.
Where are you working now?
I am working as a Project Manager at a healthcare research charity in Oxford. The organisation focuses on person centered care, and uses people’s experience to help improve the quality of health and social care. I enjoy my job because it is varied, I get to work on a number of interesting research projects and I use the skills from studying at university.
Is your current job related to your degree? If yes, how?
Yes - specifically the research methods and statistics module that I studied, and also a lot of skills I learnt whilst conducting my final year research project.
What would your advice be to new students?
Meet lots of people, make friends, work hard, play hard, go to the beach and make the most of having the Gower on your doorstep!
Vivienne completed her Psychology degree in 2010.
