Enhancing care and wellbeing for older residents with dementia

Project aims:

The intervention model will be designed to bring together older residents with mild to moderate dementia, with younger people from their community, in the informal, familiar context of the supported living setting, to develop and share activities involving culinary traditions and food preparation.

The Dementia Care Mapping technique would be used to observe and assess the impact these activities have on older residents’ well-being.

Findings can be used to tailor individual care plans.

Potential impact of the research:

  • provide a robust evidence base for extending the intervention model to other care settings
  • enhance person-centred practice
  • enrich residents’ well-being
  • offer opportunities to influence public awareness about dementia.
