Brief biography: Entered the monastery at Jarrow aged 7. Never travelled more than 50 miles from his monastery. Of the 12 volumes of his extant writings, most concern scriptural exegesis and other religious matter. One volume deals with scribal work, literature, and the art and science of time-keeping. This includes some historical and natural history material.
