Ms Cerys Matthews

Cerys_MatthewsCerys Matthews was born in Cardiff and raised in Swansea.  She first came to public attention as lead singer for the muliti-million selling rock band Catatonia, formed in 1992, though she left the band in 2000 for the US, to explore her favourite genres of early jazz and country blues.  She has collaborated extensively throughout her career with artists including Tom Jones, The Pet Shop Boys, Larry Adler, John Cale, Space and The Manic Street Preachers, and she sang for Bill Clinton at the Hay Festival in 2001.  She is also an accomplished author, especially of children’s literature and verse.  Since November 2008 she has programmed and hosted her own show on BBC Radio 6 Music.  She was awarded an MBE this year.
