Professor Anthony John Grenville Hey CBE
Professor Hey studied at the University of Oxford and obtained his PhD in Theoretical Physics in 1970. He co-wrote the first specification for the parallel computing programming standard, 'Message Passing Interface', or MPI as it is known.
From 2001 until 2005 he led the UK government’s e-Science Programme. In 2005 he became Vice President of Technical Computing for Microsoft. His current role is Vice President of Research Connections, a division of Microsoft Research. He was awarded a CBE in 2005.
