PhD funding & advanced training via ESRC Wales Doctoral Training Centre
Swansea Human Geography has secured a coveted place in the ESRC's UK-wide network of doctoral training partnerships (DTPs) as part of the prestigious Wales Doctoral Training Partnership. The Wales DTP has a considerable amount of funding available for PhD scholarships in the Human Geography pathway (as well as scholarships for other social sciences). The Wales DTP is a consortium of leading universities, which was launched in February 2011 with a multi-million-pound investment by the UK's Economic and Social Research Council. Our partner institutions in the Wales DTP are Aberystwyth, Bangor, and Cardiff Universities, with whom we work closely to ensure that the Human Geography pathway goes from strength to strength.
A central feature of the Wales DTP is the research-training provision offered to students. Our participation in the Wales DTP ensures that our Human Geography postgraduate research students benefit from superb research training and excellent networking and other career-development opportunities. As a Human Geographer, you will be offered a mix of generic research training (such as qualitative and quantitative research methods, and research ethics) and subject-specific research training, where we focus on applying research methods to geographical topics.
The Wales DTP is part of a national network of 14 accredited Doctoral Training Partnerships across the UK, judged by the ESRC to deliver outstanding postgraduate training provision.
