BA Human Geography
I chose to study geography at Swansea University, and have never regretted my decision.
I completed my BA Human Geography and achieved a First-Class Honours degree and also received the “Best Dissertation for Human Geography” Certificate. My dissertation aimed to develop a framework to introduce how cities, especially urban society is dominated by neoliberal ideology, and I examined the extent to which neoliberal notions have influenced the planning of urban redevelopment. I focussed on the disruption to the socio-spatial structure of neighbouring business communities and picked Hong Kong as a city for my case study.
After three years of study at Swansea University, I would like to undertake advanced studies in the near future. My advice to new students considering whether to apply to Swansea University would be to visit the local area. For me, the location was a big factor especially as I had been used to living in an urban area.
Last but not least, let me leave this profile with the quote from Karl Marx, which sums up my theory of the very existence of being a human geographer:
“The philosophers have only interpreted the world in various ways; the point, however, is to change it.”
