General English Summer Programme
General English Summer Programme: Course Postponed - We have updated our information due to COVID-19 - please overview below:
Covid-19 Update In line with Swansea University advice, ELTS have now moved all face-to-face courses online until further notice; therefore, the information below does not necessarily reflect all aspects of the current provision. Please keep checking our website for updates over the coming weeks
Updated information due to COVID-19
We understand that prospective students are justifiably concerned about the current coronavirus outbreak and the potential impact on their enrolment on at Swansea University.
As the campus is currently closed for face-to-face teaching, the decision has been made to postpone the General English Summer Programme scheduled for July and August 2020.
We will be running an online IELTS Preparation programme for students who want to improve their IELTS score in preparation for studying academic English with ELTS in September 2020. For more information about this course, contact email@example.com
The General English Summer Programme offers 2, 4, 6 and 8 week courses which will build your confidence in using General English. You are taught in classes which are suitable for your level of English and which will help you to develop the following skills:
- Grammar and Vocabulary
- UK Culture
Each week includes 22 hours of organised tuition, and the maximum class size is 18.
The course also includes social events and excursions to local places of interest. Please see the Trips section (below) for more information.
The General English Summer gives you everything you need to maximise your confidence and improve your English language skills
Our integrated social activities and trips are an important part of the General English Summer Programme. They are an excellent opportunity for you to socialise with an international mix of students on the course and to practise your English outside the classroom. In recent years, General English Summer programme students have enjoyed the following:
- Welcome Party and Quiz Afternoon
- Beach BBQs
- Half day trip to Big Pit
- Full day trip to St Fagans National History Museum and Cardiff
The cost of trips are included in the course fees. Entrance to certain museums are extra, but a free alternative is offered. There is a small charge (approx. £10.00 per person) for the social events to cover the cost of food, refreshments, and bowling. Entry to the Gower Heritage Centre is £7.50.
ELTS has a duty of care to safeguard all students aged under 18 in its care. ELTS will ensure the safety and protection of all under 18s enrolled on its programmes through adherence to the Safeguarding guidelines that we have adopted.
We will endeavour to ensure that under 18s are protected whilst studying at ELTS. We will do this by:
- making sure all staff are carefully selected and DBS checked.
- providing appropriate training for staff in issues of child protection.
- providing a dedicated Safeguarding officer who meets all under 18s on a weekly basis.
- taking attendance and monitoring student behaviour.
- ensuring that students are supervised during lessons and trips.
- adhering to the University Safeguarding Vulnerable groups policy.
- providing students with a 24-hour emergency contact number.
- providing each student with an under 18s handbook.
For more information or to ask a question about summer accommodation, send a message to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Students aged under 18 who travel as an individual must arrange accommodation on campus with Residential Services. Please contact email@example.com for more information on how to arrange this.
Students aged under 18 may arrange accommodation privately if they travel with family or have family based in Swansea who they will live with during their time here.
