Professor Sondipon Adhikari recently won the Royal Academy of Engineering Distinguished Visiting Fellow Grant and has welcomed Professor Ranjan Ganguli to Swansea.
The visiting fellow, Professor Ganguli, is the Satish Dhawan Chair Professor in Aerospace Engineering at a premier research university, the Indian Institute of Science. He is an expert in helicopter dynamics and has written six books on this topic including Engineering Optimization, Gas Turbine Diagnostics with CRC Press and Finite Element Analysis of Rotating Beams.
The visit will exploit the synergy between the Universities research groups to address the problem of stochastic analysis of the nonlinear and computationally intensive helicopter stability problem. This research will contribute to a good understanding of the capability of deep learning for uncertainty quantification and will also contribute towards improving the flight safety of helicopters.
During his visit, Professor Ganguli will deliver various seminars at Swansea and will work with many of the staff and students on their research. He will exchange insights into pedagogy with Swansea faculty in the areas of optimization, structural mechanics, and aerospace structures.
Professor Adhikari says “This visit will provide great opportunities for both staff and students to advance our research in this area. It also highlights the College of Engineering and Swansea University’s collaboration with top international institutes.”
