Our General English Summer Programme is a full-time course perfect for you if you want to:

  • improve your level of General English
  • attend excursions to places of interest and other social events

Course Information

The General English Summer Programme offers 2, 4, and 6 week courses which will build your confidence in using General English. You are taught in classes which are suitable for your level of English and which will help you to develop the following skills:

  • Grammar and Vocabulary
  • Reading
  • Listening
  • Writing
  • Communication
  • UK Culture

Each week includes 22 hours of organised tuition and the maximum class size is 18. Download a sample General English Summer Timetable  to find out more about a typical week.

The General English Summer gives you everything you need to maximise your confidence and improve your English language skills 


An important part of the General English Summer Programme are the integrated social activities and trips. These are an excellent opportunity for you to socialise with the international mix of students on the course and to practise your English outside the classroom. In recent years, General English Summer programme students have enjoyed the following:

The cost of trips are included in the course fees. Entrance to certain museums are extra, but a free alternative is offered. There is a small charge (approx. £10.00 per person) for the social events to cover the cost of food, refreshments, and bowling. Entry to the Gower Heritage Centre is £7.50.

The minimum age to attend the General English Summer Programme at ELTS is 16 years old.  There is no maximum age.  

Course fees include books and course material.

ELTS has a duty of care to safeguard all students aged under 18 in its care. ELTS will ensure the safety and protection of all under 18s enrolled on its programmes through adherence to the Safeguarding guidelines that we have adopted.

We will endeavour to ensure that under 18s are protected whilst studying at ELTS. We will do this by:

  • Making sure all staff are carefully selected and DBS checked
  • Providing appropriate training for staff in issues of child protection
  • Providing a dedicated Safeguarding officer who meets all under 18s on a weekly basis
  • Taking attendance and monitoring student behaviour
  • Ensuring that students are supervised during lessons and trips
  • Adhering to the University Safeguarding Vulnerable groups policy
  • Providing students with a 24-hour emergency contact number
  • Providing each student with an under 18s handbook

Students aged under 18 who travel as individual must arrange accommodation on campus with Residential Services. Please contact for more information on how to arrange this.

Students aged under 18 may arrange accommodation privately if they travel with family or have family based in Swansea who they will live with during their time here
