I am pleased to confirm that the new all-Wales “National Masters in Education” programme will be available for teaching from September 2021.
The Welsh Government will support up to 500 education professionals to take the qualification from next September. We will target funding support to early career practitioners (that is those in year 3-6 of practice).
This is ambitious and important development which supports our recruitment and retention strategy, our national approach to professional learning, and strengthens the relationship between our higher education sector and education reform programme.
The National MA Education will ensure that all teachers in Wales have the same high-quality opportunity to enhance their professional knowledge, engage with cutting-edge research and to improve their professional practice.
I am delighted that universities across the nation have worked together, and with the Government, to develop this programme to meet the needs of the workforce and the ambitions of Our National Mission.

Cardiff University continue to contribute within our education research strategy, and we continue to work with them so that they too can benefit from this opportunity.
This national collaboration, which will continue to raise school standards, demonstrates a strong sense of civic mission from our higher education sector. This has long been a priority for me and I warmly welcome what has been achieved so far, and I am confident it will go from strength to strength.
