About

Nia graduated from the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff with both BSc and MSc in Biomedical Science, specialising in Forensic Toxicology and Medical Microbiology. Following this, Nia was awarded a NISCHR Welsh Office of Research and Development PhD Scholarship in the role of exercise in mediating inflammation, Type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Nia continued her studies in inflammation in a post-Doctoral Research Position in the Haemostasis Biomedical Research Unit in Morriston Hospital, developing an interest in cancer, inflammation and haemostasis. As a result of this work, Nia has published many peer-reviewed journals, and was the sole Welsh recipient of a Lifeblood travel Scholarship to present her work in an international conference. Nia is currently the Programme Director of the Applied Medical Science Foundation Year here at Swansea, alongside teaching across degree programmes at both Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels. She is a senior fellow of the Higher Education Academy and acts as an external examiner at other institutions. Her research now focusses on in vivo models for teaching and education, alongside pedagogical research.
