PM-260 Bioethics
Should we clone humans? What should we think of the coming genetic revolution? How much control should we have over how and when we die? Is rationing health care good, bad, necessary or all of the above? This module will explore fundamental ethical issues that arise in medicine, healthcare and the life sciences. Some are as old as life itself: the vulnerability of illness, the fact of death. Some are new, brought on by a dizzying pace of technology that can unsettle our core ideas about human nature and our place in the world. Through an analysis of extant principles, theories and practices, this module aims to develop students' critical awareness of the moral, ethical and legal issues inherent within medicine, healthcare and the life sciences more broadly.

PMGM13 Ethical, Legal and Societal Issues (ELSI) in Applied Genomics
This module will provide students with an understanding of the legal, regulatory & governance frameworks associated with medical genomics and the use of genomic data. It will equip students to explore and evaluate the main ethical, legal and social issues (ELSI) involved in: genomic testing and the wider implications for the patient and their families; precision medicine; and the use of genomic data for population research.

PMGM22 Introduction to Human Genetics and Genomics
The Introduction to Human Genetics and Genomics module is a subject-specific module in the MSc Genomic Medicine programme. This unit will provide essential and contemporary knowledge relating to genetic science and genetic disease. The module will prepare participants to understand disease genetics, how genomic medicine can be utilised to elucidate disease mechanisms and biology in the context of genomic medicine. It will provide core knowledge underpinning later modules.

PPS209 Health Law and Practice
This module provides an introduction to the role of law in health care and critically examines how the law regulates clinical practice. It will examine how the English Legal System provides a framework for the National Health Service and considers how patients¿ rights are engaged through Human Rights Law, Trespass, the law of obligations as well as examine the development of the common law in other areas including negligence, criminal law and protective laws. Students will be introduced to and become familiar with statute law and case law and will discover how these laws apply in health and social care.

SHC137 Study Skills, Health Informatics and Health Service Practice
This module provides an introduction to student skills, learning skills, IT skills, communication skills and elements of Health Informatics that prepares the student for work in the clinical environment of the National Health Service as an Assistant/Associate audiology practitioner.

SHC338 Evidence-Based Practice in Cardiology
The module will prepare students for their professional role as a healthcare science practitioner in Cardiology. Students will gain an understanding of their role in the patient pathway and the importance of evidence-based practice that considers patient-centred care.

SHE114 Personal & Professional Attributes
This module focuses on foundational knowledge of the principles and responsibilities that underpin safe and effective practice for paramedics and introduces learners to the expectations of professional behaviour, including the standards of conduct, performance and ethics set out by the HCPC. The module introduces learners to some of the domains within the College of Paramedics curriculum guidance and facilitates the development of interpersonal skills that support inclusive engagement with service users, families, carers and the wider community. The module will introduce core knowledge and practical skills that support learners¿ ability to perform basic life support independently and as part of a team. The module introduces a variety of concepts directly related to the paramedic profession and is supported by a range of e-learning approaches that will facilitate learning and development aligned to this module. Practice based learning will be supported by a five week placement with the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust¿s Non-Emergency Patient Transport Services (NEPTS), enabling learners to engage and communicate with a wide range of patients with varying needs. This foundational placement will prepare learners to the world of professional practice, offering an insight into the pre-hospital environment and allowing application of taught theory.

This module considers key issues in osteopathy and health care practice based on reflection from student placements and learning. This module will be delivered through group discussion and feedback sessions.

SHF313 Ethics and Osteopathy
This module aims to develop students¿ critical awareness of the moral dimension of osteopathic care and to encourage students to reconsider ethical issues in their day to day practice. This will be enabled through their developing knowledge and understanding of literature, and broader organisational/social/policy implications.

SHF314 Independent Study
This module builds upon the knowledge and skills gained from SHF309 Evidence Based Practice and Research Methods and will enable the student to explore research in an area of interest in order to develop a literature review and a related patient information sheet.

This is a themed, standalone study day which will lead to a certificate of attendance. There are no credit points attached to this module.

SHH313 Ethics in Health and Social Care
This module aims to develop students' critical awareness of the moral dimension of health care. Ethical analysis of relevant issues is based upon extant theory and principles. Students are encouraged to reconsider ethical issues in their day to day practice, against their developing knowledge and understanding of literature, and broader organizational/social/policy implications.

SHN3055 Managing Complex Care in Rapidly Changing Situations (Adult)
This module aims to give an overview of specialist aspects of nursing practice, especially when care can be considered complex and situations rapidly change. The module also aims to give a greater insight into the application of legal, ethical and professional issues to practice. This module draws on the content of modules within Years 1 and 2 and experiences in practice to consolidate the knowledge, skills and attitude for professional practice in the field of adult nursing.

SHPM45 Introduction to Law and Medicine
This module introduces the legal system in England & Wales and its role in medicine. Students will be introduced to the nature of law and legal argument and learn how to evaluate case law in relation to consent to examination and treatment.
