About

Joanne Davies is an Associate Professor and Director of Simulation Education for the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences.  

Jo has been a midwife since qualifying at Keele University in 1997 and has worked in clinical, education and senior leadership roles in Wales /UK, Middle East and Australia. Jo's Master’s degree is in the field of health science and education, completed while working for Queensland Health in Brisbane, Australia and supported clinical education and simulation development across the East Coast.  

Jo co-designed, Directed and commissioned the Sidra Medicine Simulation Center and programme and led a team into operations, supporting the opening of a 450 bedded women and children’s hospital. Jo also acted as Exec Director of Medical Education affiliated with Weill Cornell University in her last 12 months in post in Doha Qatar leading an additional four teams towards three international accreditations under the Chief of Medical Education.  Jo co-founded the Qatar Simulation Consortium and MENA simulation programmes and is an advocate of immersive learning methodologies and faculty development in simulation based learning and effective debriefing. Jo has studied with the CMS team at Harvard University and is a certified simulation healthcare educator.  

Jo started her new SU position as Director of Simulation Based Education (SBE) in July 2021 and founded the SUSiM simulation programmes and Chairs the Interprofessional simulation working group. Jo is working on the expansion of SBE methodologies including; the redesign of simulation education buildings & spaces, the expansion of simulation methodologies across the faculty, partnerships and engagement in SBE and research, business and innovation development for SBE and immersive learning. Jo leads on the faculty development programmes for SBE and works collaboratively with the simulation Deans at HEIW as well as national and international SBE projects and work with societies.
