Prof Zhang Xiaohong

Zhang Xiaohong studied English and American Literature, Applied Linguistics, and Chinese Literature at Hunan Normal University, Hunan University and Leiden University respectively. She is Vice President and Dean of the School of Foreign Languages in Shenzhen University. She has been working as a full professor of comparative literature since 2009. She is on the Executive Council of both the International Comparative Association (ICLA) and the Chinese Comparative Literature Association (CCLA). Prof Wang Ning

Wang Ning is one of China’s leading scholars in literary and cultural studies. He taught at Peking University (1989-1997) and Tsinghua University (2000-2018) before moving to Shanghai Jiao Tong University where he is currently the Dean of the School of Humanities and Distinguished University Professor of Humanities and Social Sciences. He was a Ford Distinguished Seminar Visiting Professor at Yale University (2001), a Northrop Frye Fellow at the University of Toronto (1993) and Ibsen Fellow at the University of Oslo (1996), a distinguished visiting professor at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (2005), a distinguished visiting fellow at Washington University in St. Louis (2007), a visiting fellow at the University of Cambridge (2008), and a distinguished short-time visiting fellow at the National Humanities Center, USA (2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015). He was also President of Chinese Comparative Literature Association (2017-21), and Vice President of the Chinese Association for Literary and Art Theory (since 2008). He is a member of the editorial board or advisory board of prestigious international journals, such as Perspectives: Translation Theory and Practice, Neohelicon, Journal of Contemporary China, Comparative Literature Studies, Acadia, and Philosophy and Literature. Since 1990, Professor Wang has lectured extensively at over 80 international universities in Asia, North America, Latin American, Africa, Australia and Europe.. He was elected to the Academy of Latinity in 2010 and to Academia Europaea in 2013.As one of the most productive scholars and literary and cultural critics, Wang has published extensively both at home and abroad. He is the author of 3 books in English and 21 books in Chinese, and over 500 articles, of which over 130 articles in English published in international journals.

Prof Ding Ersu

Ersu Ding has a PhD in English from the University of Minnesota and joined the Department of English at Lingnan University in 1998. Prior to coming to Hong Kong, he taught at Suzhou University and Peking University in the People’s Republic of China. His research interests lie mostly in semiotics and comparative literature. He has published extensively both in Chinese and in English and, in 2006, he was granted the university’s Research Excellence Award. His published books include: Modern Tragedy (a translation of Raymond Williams’ work from English into Chinese) (2007), Parallels, Interactions, and Illuminations—Traversing Chinese and Western Theories of the Sign (2010) and Signs and Meanings (2012). As an active member of several international scholarly organizations, he once served as a member of the Executive Board (2000-2003) of the International Comparative Literature Association and worked as the vice president (1994-1997) of the Chinese Research Association for Language and Semiotic Studies. He currently sits on the editorial board of several academic journals and holds adjunct professorship at a number of institutions of higher education in the People’s Republic of China.

Prof Wang Jie

Wang Jie is the Changjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education PRC; Professor of College of Media and International Culture at Zhejiang University; Vice-president of the China Aesthetics Society; the Vice-president of the China Society of Anthropology of Arts; the Vice-director of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at Zhejiang University; the Director of the Center for Contemporary Marxist Aesthetics; the Chair of Professor Committee of School of Media and International Cultures; Chief editor of Research on Marxist Aesthetics. Professor Wang Jie is also a leading expert on “Fundamental Questions of Contemporary Aesthetics and Criticism”, a major bidding project of the national social science fund. His monographs include: Looking for Utopia: Crises and Reconstruction of Modern Aesthetics, Culture and Society: Marxism and Development of Chinese Literature Theory in 20th Century, etc. He has also translated influential academic books into Chinese, including Society and Governance and Society, Aesthetic Idealism. Professor Wang Jie has also edited several important books such as Aesthetics.

Prof Xu Delin

Prof. Delin Xu is the Director of CASS Centre for the Research of Literary and Cultural Theory, the author of the award-winning book Back to CCCS: A Genealogical Study of Birmingham School and is also the author of more than ten well-received essays on British cultural studies, such as “The Structure of Feeling: Raymond Williams’ Methodology in The Country and the City”. Prof. Delin Xu is currently working on a project on British Marxist literary theories and criticism, with one of its foci being Raymond Williams.

Dr Xu Shuli

Xu Shuli is a lecturer who teaches American and British literature to non-English major students in Qingdao University. She achieved her doctoral degree in arts and literature from the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and studies British new left thinkers, focusing primarily on Raymond Williams. Her work, Raymond Williams’ Thought on Rural Culture was published last year and her other articles on Raymond Williams have been published by top Chinese journals including: the Chinese Journal of Literary Criticism, New Perspectives on World Literature, and Study of Marxist Art and Literature. In recent years, her research has focused on the interaction of Raymond Williams’ thought with Chinese culture.

Dr Zhou Mingying

Zhou Mingying has a Ph.D in English from Lingnan University of Hong Kong and joined Shenzhen University China as an associate research fellow in 2019. Her main research interests include Raymond Williams studies, Cultural Studies and Gender Studies. Zhou Mingying has published six articles in the A&HCI, SSCI and CSSCI journals, including “The Politics and Gendering of Disability in Raymond Williams’s Fiction” and “Negotiations between Literary texts and History──Inquiry into Spivak’s Relation to New Historicism through Draupadi”. She also hosts a National Post-funded Project of Philosophy and Social Sciences of China, called A Critical Appraisal of Raymond Williams’s Fiction. She is the guest editor of the A&HCI journal Neohelicon, editing the special issue AI Emotion in Science Fiction..
