Welcome...

to the Centre for the Comparative Study of Portugal, Spain and the Americas, CEPSAM

Bringing together Luso-Hispanic specialists and researchers based in Wales

The Centre for the Comparative Study of Portugal, Spain and the Americas  (CEPSAM) is the product of a convergence of research and teaching interests among colleagues several departments at Swansea University, including Modern Languages, Translation and Interpreting, History, Political and Cultural Studies, and Geography.

CEPSAM is based in the Research Institute for Arts and Humanities (RIAH) at Swansea University but is interdisciplinary in focus and members of the Centre work across Colleges.

CEPSAM will host the Wales Luso-Hispanic Hub, facilitating a synergy between colleagues based at universities across Wales. CEPSAM will be launched on Friday 26th October 2018.

History of research in Latin American Studies at Swansea University

CEPSAM supersedes the Centre for the Comparative Study of the Americas (CECSAM) which had been launched in February 2010 with a public lecture delivered by Professor James Dunkerley, entitled ‘The Americas Compared: New approaches to the Study of the Western Hemisphere’. CECSAM had, in turn, superseded the Centre for Latin American Studies at Swansea (CLASS) that had been established in 2007.
