Research Conference, Taliesin Create, 6-7 May 2020 Research across Boundaries

Following the success of last year’s event, the COAH annual conference aims again to foster interest   in the inter-disciplinary research agendas of the College of Arts and Humanities. It is open to researchers across Swansea University and the Call for Proposals is now open for submission by 2nd March 2020.

With a focus on Inter – Disciplinary Research, we invite engagement with  existing research themes across CoAH which fall into 7 broad categories:

*Heritage, industry and communities

*Digital platforms, AI and communication

*Health,  well-being & culture

*Global challenges,  sustainability and governance

* Literature, linguistics and culture

*Gender, culture and society

*The study of Wales: language, society and politics

We also want to let a thousand flowers bloom, so please do get in touch if you have ideas for development that do not appear to be covered by this list.

Call for Proposals

We invite individual staff researchers to propose presentations of c 15 minutes length.   These may present ideas at any stage of development and will be included in panels that will be put together for the programme to try and develop inter-disciplinary synergies.

We also invite research centres/groups to propose ready-made panels or roundtables that again might focus on ideas at any stage of development.  Proposals need to include colleagues from across colleges (inc COAH).   Please also do consider issues of diversity and inclusivity.

Inter-disciplinary research can be understood in many ways.  These include but are not limited to:-

·         Research seeking to explore theories and ideas that cross disciplines

·         Research that draws on subject knowledge across disciplines

·         Research on problems raised by impact partners that needs an inter-disciplinary response.

·         Research that draws on varied methodological approaches and skills

While the stress is on staff researchers to present papers, the Conference will be open to all staff and postgraduate students and we would encourage PGRs to act as chairs.

When the programme is put together we will form panel slots that will each last 90 minutes.  They will all need chairs so please let us know if you are happy to volunteer.

How to apply

Presentation proposals should consist of a title and an abstract of up to 200 words.

Panel or roundtable proposals by a research centre/ group should provide details as follows:

·         Title, panel proposer, chair and list of participants

·         An abstract of what the panel will focus on (up to 300 words)

Enquiries in advance of making proposals can be made to Professor Jonathan Bradbury, COAH Director of Research, at j.p.bradbury@swansea.ac.uk.  Proposals should be sent to COAHResearchoffice@swansea.ac.uk for 2 March 2020, 4pm.

A Panel will be established to consider proposals and will confirm the programme by 20 March 2020.
