Working with Colleges and ISS to develop innovative administration systems across the University by implementing new policies, organising user groups and forums, analysing feedback, specifying new functions and managing the processes and access rights of the academic systems below:

Academic data and returns

The Academic Data Systems team, working with ISS, submit records on behalf of the University to the Higher Education Statistical Agency. Our office manages the collation of student, module and programme information sets that ensure credible data for the following returns:

  • HESA Aggregate offshore record
  • HESA Student record
  • HESA Key Information Set (course record)
  • HESA Institution Profile
  • Joint Electronic Submissions (Je-S) Studentship details for Research Councils

Information based on HESA and Je-S returns will be used for a variety of purposes including:

  • Government Higher Education funding policy and legislation
  • National press publications, including HE league tables
  • HESA publications, including National Statistics and Official Statistics
  • Academic and commercial research, including equal opportunities research
  • Statutory functions of public authorities

The Student Records and Academic Data System teams maintain data and records used by various aggregate returns, surveys and reviews:

  • Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW) HESES and EYM student returns ensures the University receives funding from the Welsh Assembly.
  • The REF research student element
  • QAA review the quality and accuracy of published course and module information
  • Destination of Leavers from Higher Education surveys - HESA DLHE returns are used to calculate the employability rating of the University
  • Student Income and Expenditure Survey
  • NSS and other University student satisfaction surveys are able to target appropriate student groups based on student records
