Swansea University

2. Attendance Monitoring Policy - Research Students

This attendance monitoring policy will apply to ALL Research students enrolled on an academic programme at Swansea University (including Masters by Research and students in Part Two of a Standard/Extended master’s programme).

Postgraduate Research Students will be subject to attendance monitoring until they have been awarded their qualification.

The University expects students to attend all scheduled learning sessions associated with each module or programme of research which they have elected to pursue, as per the University Statement of Attendance.

Student attendance shall continue to be monitored at a College level in line with the University Statement of Attendance

All notifications required by these regulations shall be sent in the first instance to the student's official University e-mail address and in some circumstances the student’s recorded term-time address and home address unless the student has notified both Academic Services and the College in writing that an alternative address should be used.

Attendance will be monitored by a student’s home College/School starting from the first research week of any given intake. Attendance will be monitored through meetings with the Supervisor.

Any student who is absent from their monthly attendance monitoring meeting with their Supervisor will enter into an escalation process.

Students will be monitored every four weeks at a point defined by the College/School. This will be on a pro rata basis for part time students.

Students studying/conducting research away from any Swansea University campus must obtain permission from the College/School prior to leaving Swansea and will be required to adhere to the attendance monitoring policy.

Attendance reports shall be monitored and reviewed by the College.
