Goodwin-Austin writes about some curious Naga Stone Statues that Colonel Dalton failed to mention [p 1 of the Word document]. He calls Descriptive Ethnology of Bengal a 'beautiful book' [p3 of the Word document] but explains that it made an error in that he 'adopted an artificial divide between the Naga's east and west of the Doyang River'. [p3 of the word document]. Click here for the complete article Goodwin-Austin, H. H., On the Rude Stone Monuments of Certain Naga Tribes, with Some Remarks on Their Customs, etc. The Journal of the Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland, Vol 4 (1875), 144-147 What Goodwin-Austin might not have realised was that it seems Dalton had in fact mentioned the Rude Stone Monuments in Chutia Nagpur in an article for the Asiatic Society in 1873 (Vol XLII. p. 112). click here to see the publication details.
H. Risley writes about Ethnology in India, the past way it has been studied, and how to study it now. He is again critical of Edward's work, and points out imperfections in Dalton's work.
