Swansea University Summer Ball

Student life

University is not just about studying. Your time at university will give you the chance to explore opportunities and gain experiences that can change your life.

For many young people, one of the best things about being a student is the chance to make new friends and enjoy new hobbies or sports. Swansea University Students' Union runs a huge range of clubs and societies - over 50 sports teams and over 100 societies. These include comedy, dance, cheerleading, rugby, swimming and football, 'Quidditch' and 'ultimate frisbee'.

Our Students' Union has been rated as the best in Wales, and is at the centre of life on campus. Spread across the campus, student village and city centre, the SU run two pubs, two nightclubs, a coffee shop, one supermarket, a clothes shop – among other things. They also organise over 300 events for students each year, including the Summer Ball and the Welsh Varsity. Headline acts in recent years have included Florence and the Machine, Chase and Status, Ed Sheeran, Russell Howard and Tim Minchin.

The SU is run by students, for students - the President and other officers are elected each year by students and they represent all students in meetings with the university and by campaigning on issues that affect them

Swansea SU President

"The Students' Union is the hub of Swansea's thriving student community, and students are joining us at one of the most exciting times in our history. Students have never had so much input into their union, university and local community. We have world record breaking nightlife in the biggest clubs in Wales and have brand new facilities like our bar and coffee shops."
