Swansea University - Funding

Funding

If you have a disability, medical condition or specific learning difficulty you may be eligible for funding from the Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA). You do not need to be registered disabled to apply and it is not means tested

This allowance is intended to cover any extra costs or expenses that arise while you are studying because of your disability. They are not intended to pay for:

  • Disability-related costs that you would have whether you were a student or not
  • Study costs that every student might have
  • Personal care. Please contact one of our Disability Caseworkers if you need advice on covering personal care costs.

There are four sections within the allowance to cover different areas of need:

  • Specialist equipment allowance
  • Non-medical helpers' allowance
  • General/other expenditure allowance
  • Travel costs

So how and when do I apply for Disabled Students Allowance?

Funding for part-time and/ or postgraduate students.

Part-time and postgraduate students applying for DSA need to have a section of their DSA application form signed by someone at the University. We are happy to do this for you once you have been formally offered a place at Swansea University. Please note that if you are a part time student you will need to be studying 50% or more of the full time equivalent degree programme to be eligible for funding.

EU and International students

Due to recent changes to UK government guidance, it may now be possible for students from the European Union to apply for Disabled Students Allowance.
